Seonnongdaeje Festival

Seonnongdaeje is a traditional cultural festival in Dongdaemun-gu that reenacts the ancient royal ritual of praying for a bountiful harvest. Historically, Joseon kings performed this rite and participated in symbolic plowing to demonstrate care for their people. Held at Seonnongdan in Jegi-dong, the festival features a traditional royal procession and a ceremony. Notably, it also commemorates the origins of Seolleongtang by sharing bowls of the soup with attendees, just as kings once provided for their subjects. Now in its 47th year, it serves as a vibrant cultural gathering for locals and tourists alike.
